Released on August 11, 2022, Laal Singh Chaddha features Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Manav Vij, among others, in the leading roles. While Aamir plays the titular role in the movie, Kareena plays Rupa while Mona, Aamir’s mother. Manav has an absolutely interesting role in the movie, which is quite a highlight here. Not to forget, there is Naga Chaitanya as Laal’s best friend, and their equation, thought lasts for a few minutes, is a beautiful watch.
Directed by Advait Chandan and written by Atul Kulkarni, rest assured that you will like the movie for all the right reasons. Though you would take a while to come around Aamir Khan’s dialect, his eyes, and his entire look and feel, hey, that happened with Forrest Gump too. The movie had an entire graph that it took, and it was beautiful to see the way things rounded up.
Advait has captured some of the most beautiful shots, even though they are as basic as they could be. He seems to have kept up with the Punjab and Delhi vibe throughout the movie, making the film relatable to many. For us, Atul’s writing is the absolute trump card because of his ability to subtly add so many events. While there has been so much debate about how things have been incorporated, be it the Sikh riots, the Emergency, or even the war issue, there’s only so much that we can discuss.
The film manages to get emotions right, and every bit of it. From Mona and Aamir’s equation to Rupa and Aamir’s growing relationship, and of course, Naga and Aamir, too, everyone seems to fit well in what they are doing.
As for the performances, Aamir as Laal Singh Chaddha does justice to the role, and it is difficult even to imagine someone else creating it. His screen presence goes well with the entire look and feel. While Kareena as Rupa is rather underwhelming, she kind of redeems herself in the climax and extra points to her for that.
Next up, Mona as the mother, is a great performer. We wish for Singh to get more roles and more centred roles if nothing. Although Naga only has a small role, he does well, making sure he creates an impact just right. Manav Vij, as the Pakistani military, manages to add so much content to the entire plot, and we think the way it has been incorporated is beautiful.
All in all, fans of Forrest Gump, who watch the movie without a bias, will not be disappointed in the way the movie looks and feels. If people go in with biases, there would be ample flaws. While we don’t say that Laal Singh Chaddha is a flawless film, it does set out to do something right, which is enough to make a good film.
