Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, a National Award winner, offers an emotional farewell to legendary actor Sameer Khakhar, who died today due to medical difficulties.
Actor Sameer Khakhar, better known for playing the legendary character Khopdi in the Nukkad television series, went suddenly at 70 following multiple organ failures brought on by a protracted illness.
Expressing his grief and bidding goodbye to veteran actor, filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to his social media handle. He tweeted, “For some reason, I was nicknamed Khopdi in college after his iconic character in Nukkad. My closest friends from the time still call me Khopdi. But I guess it’s time to say goodbye to the OG. Goodbye, Sameer Khakhar. Thank you for the memories.”
Khakhar, ill for a while, passed away this morning at a hospital in Borivali due to multiple organ failure. Later today, his funeral service will be held at the Vaziranaka Crematory in Borivali West.
Khakhar, who has big eyes and a roundish face and is endowed with a roly-poly disposition, is best known for playing a drunk in the hit comedy-serial Nukkad. In addition, he performed in nearly 40 Bollywood movies, Gujarati plays, and half a dozen television series in both big and little roles.
Hansal Mehta works on various projects, including Dedh Bigha Zameen, The Buckingham Murders, and several television shows, including Scoop, Scam 2003, and Lootere.
