Veteran director and actor Prakash Jha claims that the audience has made it clear that they will no longer watch subpar content and that filmmakers must put in more effort by focusing on stories rather than glitz and glamour.
During a press conference for his new film, Matto Ki Saikil, Prakash Jha conversed with the media.
When asked about mega-budgeted Hindi movies failing at the box office and his take on boycott culture, Prakash Jha said, “It is the story that works, people enjoy the story, the project mentality never works. All those frills and glitter don’t work. The audience has told that which ease and certainty that make good content, invest on the story, tell us something new, and we will come and watch it, but if you keep on remaking the same thing with little or no changes, then we have plenty of other choices, we don’t need to watch it.”
The M Gani-written and -directed drama Matto Ki Saikil portrays the injustice faced by a daily wage worker. Prakash Jha, Anita Chowdhary, Dimpy Mishra, Aarohi Sharma, Idhika Roy, and CP Sharma appear in the movie.
Talking about the film and his experience as an actor, Prakash Jha added, “I probably won’t call it enjoyment, but as an actor, there is fulfilment, as you try and live a character with honesty. As an actor, it was a fulfilling experience to live such a character, try and understand his struggle and his negotiation with himself and his crisis. Here he doesn’t question the world or why things are bad with me but tries to find a way to mould himself to earn his wage.”
“The connection between him and his life is his bicycle. After playing the role, let us pay attention to 50 per cent of the population and think about their needs and well-being,” added Prakash.
The film is presented by PJP films, produced by Sudhirbhai Mishra under the banner of Shivdeva Films. The film is slated for the 16th of September 2022 release.
