Actress and producer Kangana Ranaut think that the only way to fix the declining box office take is to build more accessible theatres where seeing films won’t break the bank.
The declining box office revenue has been a huge problem for theatre owners ever since the lockout, and now the top PVR Inox multiplex has clocked a staggering loss of 333 crores and will close its 50 top theatres in the next six months, as reported.
Weighing in on the issue, Kangana Ranaut took to her social media profile and wrote, “We need more theatres in the country…we need more screens. This is not good for the film industry…having said that, watching films in the multiplexes has become very expensive, and going with friends /family means a significant part of a middle-class person’s salary…something needs to be worked out…”
The theatrical box office collection is decreasing quarterly due to digital expansion and OTT platforms offering original and generic content as a monthly subscription.
On the professional front, Kangana Ranaut most recently appeared in the critically panned film Dhaakad. She would thereafter appear in films like Tejas, Emergency, Chandramukhi 2, Manikarnika 2, and others. She is also a producer of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s film Tiku Weds Sheru.
