Ranbir Kapoor Shares Memories Of Rishi Kapoor’s Last Film Sharmaji Namkeen

Sharmaji Namkeen is a very special film for Ranbir Kapoor. It’s the last film of his late father Rishi Kapoor, which he couldn’t complete due to the shoot delays and his health problems. Rishi passed away on April 30, 2020. After his demise, the film’s producers got in Paresh Rawal to fill in Rishi Kapoor’s Shoes and complete the remaining shoot.

Taking to Twitter, Amazon prime video shared Ranbir’s special message about the film and announced that the film’s trailer would be out on March 17. They captioned the post, “we can’t put in words what we want to share, but 2 legends playing a single role is so rare #SharmajiNamkeenOnPrime, trailer out tomorrow.”

In the video, Ranbir said, “I’m here to share something that makes Sharmaji Namkeen a very special film. This film isn’t special for me just because it’s papa’s last film, but papa really believed in the story. I remember when he fell sick in the middle of the shoot, he somehow wanted to complete the shoot, but life had other plans.”

After Rishi’s death, the makers tried many options, including visual effects and even getting Ranbir to replace his father. Ranbir further said, “After he left, it felt that the film might not be completed. We thought of trying VFX, or I could wear prosthetics and finish this role. But nothing was working out. And that’s when Mr Paresh Rawal stepped in and helped us finish the film.”

The actor praises Paresh Rawal, and he said, “It was very generous of him to take up this challenge because two different actors playing the same character is extremely rare in the film world. Thanks to Paresh ji, we could complete papa’s last film and bring it to you all. It will always be one of the fondest memories of my father. Up there on the screen, bringing a smile to his countless fans.”

The film is directed by Hitesh Bhatia and stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha and Isha Talwar. The trailer of the film will be out tomorrow, March 17. Sharmaji Namkeen will release on Amazon Prime Video on March 31.
