Lata Mangeshkar – The Nightingale of India Passes Away at 92

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 92. She died at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to multiple organ failures.

As per the ANI report, Dr Pratit Samdani, treating Lata Ji at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, released a statement. According to him, the legendary singer passed away due to multiple organ failures.

“It is profound grief that we announce the sad demise of #LataMangeshkar at 8.12 am. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post #COVID19, “DR Samdani Informed.

After the news broke, the country mourned the loss of the most iconic singer and took to Twitter to condole her death.

Taking to Twitter, PM Narendra Modi paid tribute to Iconic Singer Lata Ji. He wrote, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”

President of India, Ramnath Kovind, also paid condolences on the singer’s demise. He shared his pic with Lata Ji and captioned it, “Lata-ji’s demise is heart-breaking for me, as it is for millions the world over. In her vast range of songs, rendering the essence and beauty of India, generations found expression of their inner-most emotions. A Bharat Ratna, Lata-ji’s accomplishments will remain incomparable.”

Maharashtra CM, Uddhav Thackeray also took Twitter to mourn the great loss of the nation. He wrote, “स्वरसम्राज्ञी लतादिदी आपल्यातून देहाने नाहीशा झाल्या. हे अत्यंत दुःखद आहे. पण त्या त्यांच्या अमृत स्वरांनी अजरामर आहेत. अनादि आनंदघन म्हणून त्या स्वर अंबरातून आपल्यावर स्वरअमृत शिंपीत राहतील, अशा शोकमग्न भावनांसह मुख्यमंत्र्यांनी लतादिदी यांना भावपूर्ण श्रद्धांजली अर्पण केली आहे.”

Lata Mangeshkar was given a funeral with state honours on Sunday evening. Her last rites were attended by several celebrities and VIPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Government of India has ordered two days of national mourning for the late singer. The national flag will be flown at half-staff from Sunday through Monday. Indian Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement, “There will be no official entertainment.”

Lata Mangeshkar made her debut in the film industry by playing a part in the 1945 film, BadiMaa. Later she switched to singing full time. The legendary singer received several accolades and honours throughout her career. In 2001, Lata Ji was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
