I always thought UDTA PUNJAB is one of the finest Films of Superstar Shahid Kapoor who portrayed the character of Rockstar Tommy Singh. Not far is Bollywood New Superstar Alia Bhatt who also showed the audiences her acting chops as Migrant Worker who gets trapped in the Drugs Mafia racket.
Makers of Udta Punjab had to deal with a lot of Controversies as the Film showed the drug culture of Punjab. The film also had to go through a lot of cuts from the Censor board. The film is directed by one of the most acclaimed Directors Abhishek Chaubey who is known to make offbeat films and Independent Films. Coming back on Udta Punjab film basically Shows Drugs culture in Punjab.

The film basically has four main characters all dealing with same issue of Drugs addiction. Film first character is Tommy singh aka Gabbru a famous punjabi Rock star who is also major drug addict.Alot of punjab youth follows Tommy singh lifestyle and music and hence they blindly become drugs addict like Tommy singh.ALL Songs of the Film became Chartbutster especially ChittaVe,Ek Kudi, and the Title Track of Udta Punjab.My fav from the Album includes Ek Kudi
Film second Character is of Diljit Dosanjh who is a Police inspector in Punjab Police. He carries on with happy life until one day when his own brother goes in coma due to alleged drugs overdose.
Film third character is of Alia bhatt who plays a bihari immigrant to punjab in search of livelihood. She is also a district-level Hockey player from bihar. She works in farms of Punjab where there is major drugs trading.
Fourth character of the film is Kareena Kapoor who plays a doctor. She is fighting alone against drugs menance of punjab. How these characters get involved with drugs problems and comes out of it makes the story of Udta Punjab.
Performance-wise Shahid Kapoor had given his career-best performance till date. Playing the character of disturbed psychotic rockstar he has completely lived the role of Tommy Singh. Alia Bhatt is also a Bihari migrant worker have acted well. Rest of actors Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena kapoor have also done brillant Job. As always the direction of Abhishek Chaubey is excellent.
