On January 12, 2023, 3D versions of the multilingual historical saga Adipurush, with Prabhas in the title, would be released in theatres. It’s interesting to note that Megastar Chiranjeevi’s untitled movie, which is speculatively titled Mega 154, is also slated to debut on Sankranthi 2023.
It is well known that the South hugely celebrates Sankranthi. Like Diwali in Bollywood, the Sankranthi festival is observed throughout the South. The simultaneous release of both films will affect their box office receipts, but it is yet unclear who will be able to gain from the festival holiday.
Radhe Shyam, Prabhas’ most recent movie, debuted to poor critical and audience reviews and a disastrous box office performance. The Pan-Indian superstar who made a name for himself with Baahubali needs a massive smash.
In contrast, Chiranjeevi’s Acharya flopped at the box office and hasn’t yet recovered. The Siva Koratala-directed movie featured Ram Charan in a protracted cameo.
Adipurush, a film adaptation of the Ramayana, was helmed by Om Raut. Prabhas plays Lord Ram in the movie, and Saif Ali Khan plays Lankesh. Adipurush, featuring Kriti Sanon and Sunny Singh, is Raut’s follow-up to the hit Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which won the 2020 National Award.
