Alia Bhat Starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi will have its world premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in February next year. Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed the film. It is the only Indian film selected for this year and will be screened at Berlinale Special Gala, a segment dedicated to showcasing exemplary cinema.
Bhansali Production shared the news on their official Twitter handle. They captioned the post, “The power of this has no bounds. #GangubaiKathiawadi officially selected for the #BerlinFilmFestival2022 In cinemas on 18th February 2022.”
Gangubai Kathiawadi is a crime drama adapted from one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. It is Alia’s first film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and she plays the titular role. Gangubai was one of the most powerful and respected madam from Kamathipura during the 1960s.
Ajay Devgn will be seen in a crucial role in the film and marks his reunion with SLB after the Superhit film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Ajay and Alia starrer another film RRR will also release next year. Gangubai Kathiawadi also stars Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema pahwa.
Backed by Bhansali Productions and co-produced by Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited. ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ will be released in theatres on February 18, 2022.
