The official trailer for the drama film Beautiful Beings, which is also Iceland’s official entry for the 95th Academy Awards, is released by Altered Innocence.
A teenage boy raised by a clairvoyant mother takes a bullied kid into his gang of violent outsiders. Described in reviews as “an Icelandic coming-of-age tale radiant with violence and tenderness.”
Birgir Dagur Bjarkason, Skell Einar Pálmason, Viktor Benón Benediktsson, Snorri Rafn Frmannsson, Anta Briem, Sgerur Gunnarsdóttir, and Lafur Darri Lafsson are among the cast members; Gumundur Arnar Gudmundsson directs the film.
Addi chooses a bullied misfit, a youngster with clairvoyant parents, to join his group of outcasts. The boys explore hostility and violence while learning about love and devotion when left to their devices.
Addi starts to have a sequence of surreal visions as the group’s behaviour worsens and becomes potentially fatal. Can his newly discovered intuition help him and his companions return to a more peaceful direction, or will they inevitably spiral into further violence?
Produced by Anton Máni Svansson. The film is slated for a 2023 release.
