Stranger Things has become one of Netflix’s most popular series, and after Season 5 concludes, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have big ambitions for the franchise. It has been reported that a spinoff show and a stage play are now under development, so fans won’t have to say goodbye to Upside Down.
Five projects on which the Duffer brothers will collaborate have been made public as part of their agreement with the streaming behemoth. The same includes a new stage play centred in the Stranger Things universe, a television series based on Stephen King and Peter Straub’s novel The Talisman, and a live-action adaptation of the anime series Death Note. The forthcoming productions will be handled by the Duffers’ recently established Upside Down Pictures label; it has been announced.
Regarding the following Stranger Things projects, the live-action spinoff will be produced by Upside Down alongside Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and is based on an original concept by the Duffer Brothers. The world and mythology of the show will be reflected in the setting of the stage play.
Fans had already picked up on the connection to Stephen King’s The Talisman in the Season 4 finale, where Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) could be seen reading a passage to his girlfriend Max (Sadie Sink) in one of the closing moments. It appears that the series’ fans can celebrate since they will have enough to look forward to once Season 5 of the show airs.
