Recently, Union Minister Smriti Irani disclosed that she experienced emotional outbursts on the day of Sushant Singh Rajput’s passing in June 2020. She had come to know the young man while they were both shooting on TV shows in Bombay, and she regretted that she had not had the chance to speak with him. Also, the former actress stated that she had pleaded with him not to commit suicide. She then offered advice to Sushant’s co-star Amit Sadh, who was also mourning the loss of his pal.
While serving as the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting in 2017, Smriti Irani met the actor during a masterclass on the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) stage in Goa. She worked in the same Mumbai studios as television actors, and she now holds the positions of Women & Children Development and Minority Affairs.
The events of June 14, 2020, were discussed by Smriti Irani while talking with Neelesh Mishra on his YouTube program The Slow Interview in Hindi. She added, “The day Sushant died, I was on a video conference. I just couldn’t… I said stop it. I felt like, why did he not call me? He should have called once. I had told that boy, ‘please don’t kill yourself.”
Smriti further said, “I remember feeling instantly worried about Amit. I called Amit and asked him what he was up to. He (Amit) told me he doesn’t want to live; what has he (Sushant Singh Rajput) done? I got the sense that something was wrong.”
In 2013, Amit and Sushant co-starred in the latter’s debut movie, Kai Po Che. She and Amit spoke for six hours, she said, because she was concerned about his emotional state.
Sushant, 34, was found dead in his Bombay apartment in June 2020. During his autopsy, the Bombay Police determined that the death reason was suicide. After accusing Sushant’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, with her family of abusing his funds and supplying him with narcotics, his family asked for additional inquiries into the situation. A few months later, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took up the investigation.
