According to Shabana Azmi, Satish Kaushik reportedly contemplated suicide shortly after his movie Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’s box office failure. She spoke during the musical celebration Anupam Kher hosted to mark the late actor’s 67th birthday. After he died in Delhi at the beginning of this month, this was his first birthday anniversary.
On Thursday, Anupam served as the evening’s host while paying tribute to his deceased buddy Satish Kaushik. Along with Anupam and Shabana, other famous people included lyricist Javed Akhtar, actors Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Neena Gupta, and Johnny Lever, among many more.
Shabana was reported by The Times of India in a story from the event as stating, “After the film failed, he was a dukhi aatma (sad soul), and he had this feeling that, ‘now I should die.’ He was on the first floor, and when he looked down from there because he was finding ways to commit suicide, a party was going on. He saw potatoes and brinjals being fried. So, he was like, ‘yaar main aloo baigan ke beech mein agar kud ke marr jaunga toh yeh kharab death hogi.”
