Ramayan Actor Chandrashekhar Passes Away.

Veteran actor Chandrashekhar, best known for the role Arya Sumant on the popular TV serial Ramayan and who worked tirelessly for the benefit of film workers and technicians, died on Wednesday. He was 98.

He died around 7 am at his residence here, his son and producer Ashok Shekhar told PTI. “He passed away in his sleep in the presence of family… the way he wanted. He had no health issues, and it was just his age. He lived a good life,” he added.

His co-actor Arun Govil, who played Ram on the popular TV serial Ramayan, mourned his demise in a tweet. He wrote, “Shri Chandrashekhar Ji, who played the character of Mahamantri Sumantra in Ramayana, has passed away today. May they get peace and salvation; this is my prayer to Ram Ji. Sir, I will miss you very much.” (Translated to English).

Senior actor Chandrashekhar had acted in about 250 films in his career. His first film as a hero was ‘Soorang’, which was released in 1953. After that, he worked as a supporting actor in films like ‘Gateway of India’, ‘Fashion’ (1957), ‘Barsaat Ki Raat’ (1960) and many others. After that, he became pretty popular as well. He played the lead role in his hit musical film ‘Cha Cha Cha’ (1964). He directed and produced this film. Helen also played the lead role in this film of his. It was also Helen’s debut film.
