Priyanka Chopra Jonas appears to be finally revealing Bollywood’s dark side with her terrible industry experiences. The actress recently confessed that she was sick of politics and moved to Hollywood. As a result, she also admitted that she was afraid of flop films because she wasn’t a nepo baby. The actress has recently been dropping bombshells regarding how she was often labelled a dusky actor.
As most people know, PeeCee’s win at the Miss World pageant in 2000 launched her into the entertainment industry. Before bagging a part in the Bollywood movie The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy, Priyanka made her cinematic debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan. Even though she is now regarded as a global icon, the journey there wasn’t straight, especially when her complexion was lightened for movies, and she was regarded as a “dusky” actress.
Priyanka Chopra stated on Dax Shepherd’s podcast Armchair Expert, “I was lightened up in many movies, through make-up and then blasting lighting. There was a song that I still remember. It was called ‘Chitti Dudh kudi’, a girl who is as white as milk, and I ain’t that, but I was playing her and lightened up in the movie.”
This doesn’t stop Priyanka Chopra from admitting she also played a part by promoting fairness creams. She confessed, “I remember when I joined movies, I was considered dusky, written as the dusky actress, and I was like ‘, What is dusky? What does it mean?’. Yet, I did a commercial for a fairness cream because you are doing a beauty brand. A beauty brand is a really big part of an actress’ trajectory. And all the beauty brands were selling those creams.”
Priyanka Chopra Jonas would next be featured in Citadel. In Jee Le Zara, she will return to Bollywood opposite Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
