Aashram and Kathmandu Connection actor Mohsin khan, aka iamrealmohsin, feels the best way to improve one’s craft is to learn from the experience of fellow actors.
“I am technically just 5 Projects old, and my Biggest work will soon come on the OTT platform Bhaukaal season 2. My biggest learning has been from theatre and workshops that I have done with Nadira Babbarji and observing seasoned actors or even learning from newcomers,” said the actor, who has shot two back-to-back OTT series in Lucknow
The actor started from scratch after he completed his Class 7 in Lucknow. “I had realised during my final semester that I wanted to act. I joined a small course also, but my actual training started From the theatre group. In 2016, I auditioned for Jolly LLB 2 “, he said.
He confessed that in 2014-15 he even thought of quitting and even did a part-time business which failed. “Thankfully, I passed that phase as my heart and soul was into acting, and I couldn’t think of doing anything else. Those years were tough, in fact, very tough. But I got full support from my brother, sister and friends. Finally, the release of Aashram (2020) turned the tide. Meanwhile, actors like Bobby Deol, whom I consider my mentor, boosted me.”
Iamrealmohsin calls himself a director’s actor and follows their vision. “As an actor, I do give my best and work on my character and all the three directors I have worked with have been wonderful. I strictly go by their vision as I honestly believe that cinema (or series) is a director’s medium.”
After shooting both series in Lucknow, he was shooting Bhaukaal season 2 when the second wave halted everything. “Last year, after the release, the first season lockdown happened, and everything came to a standstill. In that period, I religiously worked on my craft. This time, I had to go to my hometown, Ayodhya, after a tragedy happened in the family. So, I am with them and hope to go back as things improve and shooting starts.”
Mohsin continued being the bystander for a number of projects. “After ‘Aashram’ I was again in the crowd for series like, ‘Cops,’ ‘Cassette’ and ‘I984′ till the tables turned for me, and I got to be in the main cast for films’ Mission Majnu,’ ‘Satyamev Jayate-2′, ’14-Phere’ and ‘Bhaukaal’ where I got a role to play that too with a name. So, finally, I was in the main cast and was paid much better. And also, I didn’t have to stand for the whole day in the glaring sun. “Recently, Mohsin shot with some known names, “Shooting with John (Abraham) sir, Sharib (Hashmi) Ji in the same frame, all of this was like a dream for me and how I wished someday to be where they are,” he said.
The teenager thinks the reason for getting good work in a year or two was mainly due to multiple projects happening in the state. “UP has turned into a new shooting hub, and the kind of projects that are being shot here is the reason why local artists like me are getting good work along with money. Besides, we don’t have to run to Mumbai for work frequently,” said the ‘Mere Sai’ and ‘Saavdhan India’ actor.
