Soori and Anna Ben will release their eagerly awaited horror-drama film Kottukkaali, also known as The Adamant Girl, in theatres on August 23, 2024. The film’s developers have also released an intriguing trailer that will undoubtedly raise more questions.
The PS Vinothraj-directed film was previously chosen and screened on February 16, 2024, at the Berlin International Film Festival. In addition, Sivakarthikeyan provides financial backing for the movie from his own production company.
The Kottukkaali trailer opens with Soori and his friends being stopped by the police, setting the stage for intense events. The urgency of their situation is palpable as they rush to an exorcist to rid their sister of a spirit. Anna Ben’s character, lost in thought, adds to the suspense as she sits quietly in an autorickshaw. The chaos that ensues during the exorcism leads to a series of wild and thrilling events.
The trailer’s connection between Anna Ben’s character and a rooster dragged down by a stone, signifying their shared sense of being trapped, makes it much more captivating. The rooster sounds in the trailer intensify the excitement as it unfolds, serving as a metaphor for the urgency and tension in the characters’ lives.
Every rooster crow in the trailer seems to speed up time, creating a sense of urgency about the outcome. In Kottukkaali, Anna Ben’s character Meena, a young woman in love with a man from a lower caste, takes centre stage. Her family’s attempt to perform an exorcism to drive away her love, which they see as a possession, forms the crux of the story.
To drive this love away, her family wants to perform an exorcism since they see it as a spirit that has taken possession of her. Jawahar Sakthi, who plays Soori’s older brother Paandi in the movie, also has an impressive performance.
