Koffee With Karan 8: Karan Johar reveals he had an anxiety attack at the NMACC event

Filmmaker Karan Johar began his career as a director with the Shah Rukh Khan film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and he hasn’t stopped since. The filmmaker also came up with Koffee With Karan, a chat program that quickly rose to fame. The much-awaited eighth season of the show started on streaming recently. The first episode featured Bollywood power couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. Johar opened up about going through a depressive episode during the opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre earlier this year. He went into great detail about how actor Varun Dhawan helped him, too.

While Deepika Padukone was questioned about depression on the first episode of Koffee With Karan 8, Karan Johar recently opened up about his struggles with depression. When Padukone and actor Farhan Akhtar returned from Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday celebration in 2017, the director remembered sitting next to them in a helicopter. He went on to remember how the actress cried during the trip.

Talking about the same thing, Johar remembers holding her hand the entire journey and thinking, “I don’t even know how this feels.”

The director, however, went on to discuss his struggle with mental health problems that he later faced, noting, “I think there were three tough years of the pandemic, and there was trolling, and I didn’t realize that I was trying to be tough and resilient and brush things under the carpet.”

As they continued their conversation, the director brought up an incident that had happened at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre and said, “The legit attack I had was at the NMACC launch.”

Johar discussed in detail the incident, including how actor Varun Dhawan saved him when he started to sweat. He remembered that Dhawan held his hand and checked on him as his hands began to shake. Remembering that Dhawan had held his hand and checked on him when his hands started to shake, he recalled taking the director to a room where he was made to do breathing exercises because he felt the director was having a heart attack.

Karan went on to say that he saw a psychologist after experiencing a depressive episode and that he is now doing well.
