The makers of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, the unexpected Kannada blockbuster of 2022, have finally revealed the prequel’s release date. According to a Sunday announcement from Hombale Films, Kantara: Chapter 1, a film that promises to redefine the Kannada cinema, will be released worldwide on a significant date, October 2, 2025.
The post stated, “The moment has arrived. The divine forest whispers. #KantaraChapter1 Worldwide Grand Release on October 2, 2025.”
The prequel’s teaser was released in November 2023. At the start of the teaser, Rishab asks the audience whether they can see the “light” that allows them to glimpse into both the “past and the future.” Shiva, his character, is shown gazing up at the moon before he is presented in a different form. In the teaser, he is seen holding a trishool while sporting a completely different look, with a striking transformation that will surely leave the audience intrigued.
The film’s makers announced in March of this year that Kantara will have a prequel that explores the events that first appeared in the movie.
Rishab portrayed Shiva and his father, a Daiva Kola performer, in the film Kantara, which he directed and acted in. The movie, with its unique blend of myth and reality, follows the coming-of-age of a guy possessed by Panjuluri and Guliga Deva to rid the village of evil. Shiva disappears into the forest at the end of the movie to meet his father’s spirit, who disappeared similarly.
