Kannada film star Puneeth Rajkumar died in a Bengaluru hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was 46. The actor was reportedly working out in his gym when he complained about chest pain and was later rushed to a hospital immediately. He was taken to Bengaluru’s Vikram hospital in an “unresponsive” condition.
Social media is flooded with condolence messages. Fans and friends from the industry expressed their grief on the passing away of Puneeth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to mourn the untimely demise of the Kannada film star. He wrote, “A cruel twist of fate has snatched away from us a prolific and talented actor, Puneeth Rajkumar. This was no age to go. The coming generations will remember him fondly for his works and wonderful personality. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
The youngest son of legendary actor Rajkumar, Puneeth, was fondly called ‘Power Star’ and ‘Appu’ by his fans. He started his acting career as a child artist with his father. Puneeth won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role of Ramu in Bettada Hoovu (1985) and also won the Karnataka State Award for Best Child Artist for his performances in Chalisuva Modagalu and Yeradu Nakshatragalu.
Puneeth starred in over 29 Kannada films. He appeared as a lead actor in films like Mourya, Arasu, Raam, and Anjani Putra. He was also a singer and was admired for his dancing skills. Power star debuted in 2012 on TV as a television presenter on the game show Kannadada Kotyadhipati, a Kannada version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
Puneeth is survived by his wife Ashwini Revanth and two children.
