Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer fantasy adventure film Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva will get a global theatrical release courtesy of Disney. One of the production companies behind the film, Fox Star Studios, the distributor, is now owned by the House of Mouse after it acquired Fox in 2019.
Ayan Mukerji, who previously directed and co-wrote Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Dimple Kapadia, and Nagarjuna Akkineni in the prominent parts. It’s the first of a series — a trilogy, to be exact — and is believed to represent the beginning of a new cinematic world called the Astraverse, similar to Disney’s own Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although Indian films are distributed internationally, Brahmstra will garner a lot more attention and eyes than most Indian films due to Disney’s sponsorship and massive marketing apparatus that has made brands like Marvel and Pixar such worldwide hits. The studio has also put it on its domestic (North American) roster, according to Deadline. The film will compete with other Disney releases such as Thor: The Dark World, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
