Anurag Kashyap thinks The Kerala Story is a propaganda movie and a part of Indian politics

The Kerala Story has experienced similar circumstances as The Kashmir Files. Although the government had declared his drama tax-free in several areas, Vivek Agnihotri criticized Bollywood for not supporting it. Sudipto Sen is currently having trouble as some notable figures are referring to the movie as a propaganda film.

West Bengal and Tamil Nadu both imposed a ban on The Kerala Story. Even the Supreme Court has inquired about the states’ crucial decision. Adah Sharma broke her silence and urged the audience to see the movie and decide whether it deserves to be called out. It all started with the opposition disputing the assertion that over 32,000 women in Kerala were pressured into joining ISIS and converting to Islam.

Kamal Haasan criticized The Kerala Story and called it a propaganda movie. Based on his comments to Hindustan Times, it appears that Anurag Kashyap thinks the same. He stated, “Frankly, you can’t escape politics in today’s day and age. It’s tough for cinema to be non-political. Many films that we call propaganda films, like The Kerala Story, are being made. I’m totally against banning anything, but it is a propaganda film. That’s political. I don’t want to make a film that sounds like counter-propaganda. As a filmmaker, I don’t want to sound like an activist. I’m making the cinema. Cinema has to be based on reality and truth, and the politics of it comes from the politics of the world it is based on and the truths and facts of the world it is based on.”

The Kerala Story debuted on May 5, 2023, and is already a massive success at the box office.
