Alaya F says she is not entirely a “nepotism baby” and thinks merit leads people ahead

Alaya F, who started her Bollywood career in 2020’s Jawaani Jaaneman, starring Saif Ali Khan, has lately been spotted in the movies Freddy and Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat. When Priyanka Chopra Jonas was asked who she believed should be the upcoming Bollywood superstar a few weeks ago, she replied with Alaya. Alaya was delighted and posted on her Instagram about how thankful she was. Alaya is Pooja Bedi’s daughter and Kabir Bedi’s granddaughter. In a recent interview, Alaya expressed her views on nepotism and clarified why she doesn’t consider herself a “fully nepo baby.”

Alaya F explained to Indian Express that she is not entirely a “nepotism baby” as there are many levels of nepotism. She claimed she didn’t grow up around “industry parties” and that her mother, Pooja Bedi, stopped acting before Alaya was born. Alaya stated, “I don’t count myself as a fully nepo baby because you need to understand there are different levels in that. My mother was done with the industry; she had quit acting before I was born. I have not grown up among industry parties; that’s not been my life. So sometimes it does get frustrating because there are levels of nepotism.”

She added while acknowledging her advantages, “At the end of the day, I do come from privilege, and that’s half of someone else’s journey. It gets me into rooms but doesn’t guarantee me movies. But reaching there is the hardest part.” While Alaya admitted that she does have access, progress is only made based on merit. She said that nothing she has accomplished could be credited to her family, even if she is a nepotism baby.

While on the work front, Alaya F is preparing for the premiere of her next spooky thriller, U-Turn, which also features Ashim Gulati, Priyanshu Painyuli, Rajesh Sharma and  Manu Rishi.
