Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shared an update about her upcoming film Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam. She shared the film’s new poster and revealed that team Ponniyin Selvan had wrapped the shooting schedule of the upcoming period drama.
Aishwarya shared the new poster of the film on her Instagram handle. The poster did not feature any of its lead actors but the picture of the sword. Summer 2022, the release time of the film, is also mentioned on the poster. Aishwarya shared the photo along with some emojis, including rainbow, sparkle and heart.
Aishwarya began shooting for the film after an eased lockdown in the country. The team shot in Puducherry and then moved to Hyderabad for the following schedule. The film marks her fourth collaboration with Mani Ratnam, and it will be released in two parts. They both worked together in Iruvar, Guru and Raavanan. Aishwarya will play a double role in the film. She will play the role of princess Nandini, as well as her mother, Mandakini Devi.
Ponniyin Selvan is based on writer Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical fiction novel of the same name. Set in the backdrop of the Chola Dynasty, the novel has been adapted for the big screen by Ratnam and writer B. Jeyamohan, who has written dialogues for the movie.
Ponniyin Selvan marks Aishwarya’s comeback to acting after four years; she was last seen on the big screen in Fanney Khan in 2018.
