Sonakshi Sinha is making headlines with her upcoming role in the highly anticipated web series Heeramandi. The actress, who plays the intriguing character of Fareedan, recently shared her experience of working with renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Sonakshi Sinha, who has previously collaborated with renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on several successful projects, recently spoke with the Hindustan Times about her experience as Fareedan in Heeramandi. This marks their first collaboration in a web series, adding a new dimension to their professional relationship.
As stated by Sonakshi in the interview, “This is a character I have been waiting to do for a very long time. I have always wanted to play a slightly negative, slightly villainous character, and I am thankful to Sanjay sir that he saw me in this role. I don’t know how or why, but I guess that’s just his trust in me as an actor that I will be able to pull it off. It is motivating for an actor when a director like him imagines and attempts to depict you in a way that no one has ever seen you before. So I am so grateful. It has been one of my favourite characters that I have played on-screen.”
Sonakshi, with a sense of deep gratitude, acknowledged that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had given her a remarkable opportunity by casting her in the Fareedan role. She further added, “The character is a complete ‘Mirchi’. Wherever she goes, she adds spice.”
Sonakshi Sinha, reflecting on her artistic journey, shared that over the past seven or eight years, she has strived to portray a diverse range of roles and represent strong female characters on screen. She took the initiative to explore other genres with films like Akira, moving away from the typical masala potboilers and commercials. Her transition from mainstream Bollywood to the digital platform with projects like Heeramandi showcases her versatility and commitment to bringing unique and outstanding characters to life.
Sonakshi Sinha, humbly acknowledging her good fortune, shared that she has been blessed with two significant projects, from her first OTT release, Dahaad, to her upcoming series, Heeramandi. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to portray two beautiful characters in this series, considering herself extremely fortunate. She pledged to continue her efforts to bring strong female leads to the audience and surprise them with her versatile performances.
Prerna Singh and Bhansali Productions back Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Fardeen Khan, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, and Taha Shah also play important roles in the series. Netflix’s Heeramandi is set to debut on May 1.
