Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, the ambitious web series directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will debut on Netflix on May 1. The much-awaited show’s release date was revealed at a drone light display event at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in South Mumbai. A glimpse inside Heeramandi’s universe: The Diamond Bazaar, Bhansali’s first digital release, was displayed in the skies by drone formation. And now Sonakshi Sinha’s song Tilasmi Bahein is out. Sanjay Leela Bhansali composed the song, while Sharmistha Chatterjee sang it.
Sonakshi Sinha plays courtesan Fareedan in the song, which was shot in just one take. The song opens with Sinha smoking and drinking. She has glitzy makeup and is wearing a beige sari with sequins. Facing her, two men dressed in black suits attempt to charm her. She drinks so much that she gets intoxicated and dances as if there’s no tomorrow.
The series, which is billed as an epic story of love, power, revenge, and freedom, explores the stories of courtesans and their patrons to explore the cultural realities of Heeramandi, a dazzling area, against the tumultuous backdrop of the 1940s Indian freedom fight.
Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, and Aditi Rao Hydari are also featured in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Sanjay Leela Bachhansali created, directed, and produced the series based on Moin Beg’s concept.
