Rumours of Sourav Ganguly’s biopic have been swirling for a few years. It would be produced through Luv Ranjan’s banner, according to the former captain of the Indian men’s cricket team, who announced it in 2021. According to recent reports, Ranbir Kapoor, who will play the lead role, will soon travel to Kolkata to tour Eden Gardens, the Cricket Association of Bengal office, and “Dada’s” home before the filming officially begins.
Ankur Garg, the movie’s co-producer, claimed there aren’t any new developments to report now, and casting hasn’t even been discussed. Garg said, according to ETimes, “Honestly, there’s no update to share at this point. The biopic will be one of the projects that we will focus on after our upcoming film’s release. For now, casting or anything else hasn’t been discussed.”
While on the other hand, Dona Ganguly, Ganguly’s wife, said, “I am not sure. I don’t know yet.” Sanjay Das, a close friend of Ganguly, was also reported in the publication by adding, “Nothing about the film is fixed yet. We will need at least eight-nine months to decide who will play the lead role. Once everything falls into place, Sourav and the production house formally announce who will play his character on screen. That Ranbir Kapoor will likely play Dada is just a rumour, at least now.”
While Ranbir Kapoor is getting ready for the premiere of Tu Joothi Main Makkar, which also has Shraddha Kapoor in the title role, the film, which Luv Ranjan helms, is presented by Gulshan and Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, Ranbir and Shraddha would share the screen for the first time. On Holi, March 8, 2023, TJMM is slated for a festive release in theatres worldwide.
